6th Meeting of European IRPA-Societies
6th Meeting of European IRPA-Societies was organized by the Croatian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) and took place at the Rudjer Bošković Institute in Zagreb on October 26, 2009. Co-organizers and sponsors of the meeting were Rudjer Bošković Institute and Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health. We thank to the directors of both institutes, Danica Ramljak, D.V.M., Ph.D., and Ana Lucić-Vrdoljak, Ph.D., for their understanding and help.
At the former, 5th meeting, which was held in Prague last year, the chairwoman of CRPA, Saveta Miljanić, announced our candidacy for the next meeting. This was accepted with pleasure by all participants, including representatives of France, who announced also their candidature.
Preparations for the meeting lasted through a period of several months when the chairwoman of CRPA contacted a great number of distinguished representatives of the radiation protection community from Europe. The program was agreed by extense interchanging opinions and stands. The big response was achieved and - besides the participants from Croatia - 21 participants from 12 were present.

It should be emphasized that even three members of Executive Council of IRPA were present (E. Gallego, A. Hefner and B. Le Guen).
The CRPA chairwoman Saveta Miljanić could not attend the the meeting because of heavy injury of her leg. However, she came to greet the participants at the dinner organized in the restaurant "Kaptolska Klet" one day before the meeting. On this occasion she expressed her good wishes for the successful work of the meeting and gave her impressions about the development and achievements in co-operation of Europenan radiation protection societies, starting with the first informal meeting, which was held in Munich 2004, to this one in Zagreb, which - although still informal - reflects growing needs to the co-operation of radiation protection societies in Europe.
The meeting at the Rudjer Bošković Institute was chaired by I. Krajcar Bronić, who - together with M. Ranogajec-Komor - made final preparations. The representatives of European societies expressed theoir pleasure by the reaslization of common initiative about awarding young specialist or scientist for the best dissertation or published paper from the radiation protection field. The winners of national applications will apply at the 3rd European IRPA Congress in Helsinki in 2010 for the European award. The CRPA proposal that national winners wil not be obliged to pay fee at the Euiropean Congress was accepted
The next, 7th meeting of European IRPA-Societies will be held in Spain at the end of October 2010.
