The Croatian Radiation Protection Association is a public organisation with the purpose of promoting and developing scientific, upbringing, educational and cultural activity in the field of radiation protection and related fields of science. The Association was founded on July 16, 1979 in Zagreb and till 1991 was the part of the Yugoslav Radiation Protection Association, founded in Portorož 1963. As an independent association it was 1992 incorporated into International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA). It gathers 166 scientists and professionals (May 23, 2006).
The main activities of the Association are through
stimulation and support of basic and applied scientific research;
stimulation and support of the application of scientific results in commercial and non-commercial activities;
initiatives and execution of improvement of education in elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities in Croatia;
popularization of science, its results and their applications;
affirmation of the scientific method and manner of thought.
One of the aims of the Association are the promotion of scientific and professional activities by:
Organization of
professional lectures;
Organization of
national symposia on bi-annual basis (Zagreb 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998;
Stubičke Toplice 2003 and
2005);
Participation on
international meetings and conferences;
Co-organisation of
regional IRPA congresses (Austria 1993, Slovenia 1995, Czech Republic 1997, Hungary 1999);
Organization of IRPA
Regional Congress on Radiation Protection in Central Europe (Dubrovnik, 2001)
and in the field of education and popularization of knowledge on radiation through
promotion of education of professional personnel and population;
organization of popular lectures;
editing of publications;
participation in manifestations of broader social importance.
